Health Information Technology

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Analyze and interpret the language, terminology, coding, and classification systems used in healthcare and health informatics to ensure accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Differentiate and evaluate body systems, pharmacology, and pathology to determine their impact on health and disease processes.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and legal standards of conduct applicable in a Health Information setting through real-world case applications.

Public Services

Emergency Medical Services
  • Conduct primary assessments of medical & trauma patients in prehospital and emergent/acute care settings.
  • Perform focused secondary assessments and obtain pertinent histories for medical & trauma patients in prehospital and emergent/acute care settings.
  • Construct and implement treatment plans, including the use of pharmacological, BLS and ALS interventions for medical & trauma patients in prehospital and emergent/acute care settings.
  • Examine the effectiveness of interventions in medical & trauma patients and modify treatment plans to respond to changes in patient physiological and psychological parameters.
  • Apply ethical principles to resolve dilemmas in the prehospital environment that revolve around operational, safety and patient oriented considerations.
  • Interpret quantitative and qualitative data relevant to the pathophysiological basis of illness and injury to include laboratory data, radiology and special imaging data, and point of care data acquisition and analysis (EGK, BGL, Vital Signs, capnometry/graphy, PFT, POCUS, etc.)
Fire Science

Students will be able to:

  • Analyze the diverse entrance requirements and career pathways within fire service to develop a personal professional development plan.
  • Explain the fundamental principles of fire service organizational structure and operational management, and analyze how these principles impact incident command and resource allocation.
  • Analyze fire incident data and physical evidence to determine the origin and cause of fires, and evaluate the effectiveness of investigative techniques.
  • Evaluate the impact of building construction types and fire behavior principles on fireground tactics and firefighter safety.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in fundamental firefighting skills (e.g., hose deployment, ladder operations, search and rescue) and apply knowledge of fireground safety procedures in simulated emergency scenarios.
  • Analyze incident information and potential hazards to evaluate strategic options and select appropriate tactics for the development of a safe and effective incident action plan.
Criminal Justice
  • Evaluate and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, using appropriate references, technologies, and critical analysis to present clear, coherent, and well-supported arguments.
  • Formulate and apply analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate and solve complex issues in criminology and the criminal justice system, incorporating diverse perspectives and evidence-based approaches.
  • Analyze and assess criminological theories related to crime causation, demonstrating the ability to apply these theories to real-world criminal justice scenarios and explain their implications.
  • Critically examine and explain how gender, race, ethnicity, age, social class, and sexuality shape differing experiences within the criminal justice system, applying this understanding to contemporary social issues.
  • Analyze the interdependence of the major components of the criminal justice system (police, courts, correctional agencies) and assess their impact on victims, offenders, justice professionals, and society.
  • Evaluate and apply the fundamental elements of both criminal and constitutional law in real-life scenarios, demonstrating an understanding of their role in the justice process.
  • Analyze the legal foundations of criminal justice and evaluate the importance of due process in ensuring fairness and justice within the system.
