Humanities and Social Sciences

The Humanities and Social Sciences department offer courses from a broad range of areas that count towards the completion of an Associate of Arts degree and the fulfillment of requirements for other degree programs. Specifically, the Associate of Arts allows students to complete many of the general education requirements for a bachelor's degree while attending Doña Ana Community College. Courses offered by this department include:

In addition, the selection of courses offered by the Humanities and Social Sciences Department provides students the opportunity to explore different courses and determine their areas of interest. Classes are taught by expert faculty who are dedicated to providing students with a dynamic learning experience and environment.

The Humanities and Social Sciences Department is also home to Doña Ana Community College's Public Health Program. Through the Public Health Program, students can complete an Associate of Public Health and a Community Health Worker Certificate.

Humanities Learning Objectives

• Students will employ writing and/or speaking processes such as planning, collaborating, organizing, composing, revising, and editing to create an effective oral presentation and/or written content. 
• Students will integrate research correctly and ethically from credible sources into speech and written assignments to support the primary purpose of communication. 
• Students will apply theories, concepts, techniques, and skills learned in the academic context to real-world scenarios. 
• Students will determine ethical principles to assist with solving personal challenges and issues impacting members of society. 
• Students will analyze or discuss diverse viewpoints, traditions, values, and historical data through comparative analysis and reflective assignments, gaining well-rounded insights into various cultural contexts. 
• Students will incorporate new concepts and vocabulary into their written and spoken discourse and assess the effectiveness of their communication through reflective practices and feedback.
