Student Complaint Forms
Academic Complaints
If you have a complaint or concern involving a particular course or instructor, such as classroom management or class structure, follow the steps below or view the decision tree.
- Students should discuss and try to resolve the issue with the instructor/faculty member.
- If the issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, or if you do not feel comfortable approaching the instructor directly, contact the department head.
- If the issue is still not resolved, or if the instructor/faculty member the concern or complaint is with, contact the associate dean for the respective college.
- The final step if the issue is still not resolved is the college's dean.
To launch a formal grade grievance, NMSU Policy must be followed. See Grade Appeal for more information.
Non-Academic Complaint
Non-academic complaints refer to concerns unrelated to the classroom or academic coursework. These may involve administrative, logistical, or operational issues that impact the student experience. Examples include concerns about financial aid, parking, student records, facilities, or other services provided by the institution. Non-academic complaints do not involve courses, instructors, or classroom matters. Instead, they address the broader support systems and resources available to students. If you have a non-academic concern, you can submit it through the designated form to ensure it is routed to the appropriate department for resolution.
