For Students
What is a STEMentor?
- A STEMentor is an in-class support resource who both tutors and acts as a helping guide for navigating college life. The aim of this program is to provide a more holistic approach to student support. Through resources knowledge and their own experiences as students, STEMentors become a reliable and friendly resource that students can approach without the pressures they may feel with other professionals they interact with.
- A STEMentor is present within classes, attending the same instruction time as students and announcing their roles and responsibilities. They also present information about resources and guides for academic success. Such as guides to studying and time management.
- When students face the troubles that come with college, they may not always be something that they feel can be discussed with instructors. STEMentors help bridge that gap between a student’s academic life and personal lives.
- With monthly trainings, STEMentors are up to date with all the latest changes to DACC.
STEMentor Requirements/basic job details

“My in-class peer mentors assisted with tutoring and laboratory experiments. They also provided resources to assist students with transfer to NMSU. What I appreciated most was that my mentors served as visible examples of successful STEM students. They created a supportive learning environment that encouraged student motivation and a sense of belonging in STEM.”
