Applying for Dual Credit
1. Talk to the High School Counselor
Prospective dual credit students will have to talk to their high school counselor about their interest in participating in the Dual Credit program
The HS Counselor/School Representative will create a list of the Dual Credit Students that will participate in the dual credit program. Students interested in participating must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a high school junior or senior enrolled at least half-time at their high school
- Obtain approval from a high school guidance counselor
- Obtain approval from parent or guardian
- Must have a high school cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0
2. Complete the Dual Credit Admission Application.
Prospective dual credit students will have to complete the DACC/NMSU Admission Application.
This is required if the student is not an active dual credit student. (The DACC Dual Credit Team must be notified by the HS counselor of any student applying for dual credit).

3. Complete the Dual Credit Request Forms
Prospective dual credit students will have to complete the Dual Credit Request Forms.
These forms are required every semester. Students will have to complete the student information portion and collect all required signatures (student, parent, and high school representative/counselor).
4. Turn in the Completed Dual Credit Request Forms
Prospective dual credit students will have to turn in their completed Dual Credit Request Forms to their counselors.
After the forms are received by counselors, they will be handed over the DACC Dual Credit Team for processing.
5. Meet with a Dual Credit Advisor
Prospective dual credit students will have an academic advising meeting to select DACC courses.
These academic advising meeting will take place in any of the two following formats:
Academic Advising Visits to the High School. If the school is in the county of Dona Ana and a substantial number of students are being enrolled in Dual Credit, a visit from our Academic Advisors might be preferrable. HS Counselors/School Representative will have to provide the following to coordinate the visit:
- List of students that will be participating in the Dual Credit Program. This will determine the number of days and advisors that will require to advise all students from that school
- Any No-Shows will have to schedule a virtual/phone meeting.
Virtual/Phone Advising Meetings. If the High School is outside of Dona Ana County or if it’s an online-based institution, virtual or phone meetings are preferred. HS Counselors/School Representative will have to provide the list of students that will need to be registered. After that students will contact DualCredit@dacc.nmsu.edu to schedule an Academic Advising appointment.
Here are the next steps once students have been admitted as a new dual credit students:
- Create myNMSU Account. Students will receive a "Welcome to DACC" email to their personal email that includes their Aggie ID and instructions on creating the myNMSU account. Follow the link myNMSU to create myNMSU account. To set up the account, new students will need to know their Aggie ID number or social security number and their date of birth. Having acces to myNMSU gives students access to their class schedule, grades, email, and a direct route to CANVAS – the online learning system. If students encounter problems, they can call the ICT Help Desk at 646-1840 or email them at: help@nmsu.edu for assistance.
- Complete the Dual Credit Orientation (New Students Only). Available online, via Canvas for Dual Credit and Early College HS students.
Once students have access to your myNMSU, they will check your access to the following to get familiar with them:
- NMSU Outlook (Email). Find the Outlook (Email) link on myNMSU Dashboard. This is the link to the NMSU email and will be the official means of communication for the DACC Dual Credit Program. Follow the link and set up the NMSU email account!
- Canvas (NMSU’s Online Learning System). Find the Learn.nmsu.edu (Canvas) link on the myNMSU Dashboard or visit learn.nmsu.edu. Here students will have access to course information, assignments and grades for some courses, and more.
