More than 50 Doña Ana County residents graduated from Doña Ana Community College (DACC)’s GED ceremony held last week.
The college recognized 56 graduates on Friday, December 5th who successfully obtained their high school equivalency diplomas from the Adult Education program.  The graduates successfully passed their GEDs (General Educational Development) or HiSET diploma (High School Equivalency Test) in both English and Spanish. The GED test covers four subjects in math, science, social studies and reasoning through language arts. The HiSET covers five subjects from language arts (writing), mathematics, science, social studies and language arts (reading). DACC is an official testing center and offers classes to prepare students for these exams.
Karen Avila is a recent graduate of the program who says it convinced her to further her journey at DACC. “I’m happy to say that I wouldn’t want to pursue my career at any other school. Don’t give up, life is hard for everyone but, at the end of the day, either you stay stuck at the same place forever or you get up and fight to have a better future,” Karen says.
There is no cost to complete a high school equivalency exam. You must be 16 years or older to attend classes. For more information on the program, go to https://dacc.nmsu.edu/academics/departments/adult-education/index.html
