More than 20 students from Doña Ana Community College (DACC) took home awards during the New Mexico SkillsUSA competition held earlier this month.
DACC’s team consisted of 23 students. Six students won gold medals, seven won silver and six students received bronze medals during the state-wide competition which prepares students for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. The six gold medalists now qualify for and are invited to represent New Mexico at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this June.
“Every student that trains and competes at the state level demonstrates improvement in their skills, dedication, and professionalism, that makes all of them winners,” says John Carter, professor in Computer & Information Technologies.
DACC students competed in areas from customer service, extemporaneous speech, job demonstration and interview, architectural drafting, information technology, internetworking, computer programming and culinary arts.
The state competition was held April 11th to 13th in Albuquerque. For more information on SkillsUSA, visit www.skillsusa.org.
