Las Cruces – Dr. Daniel J. Howard, Executive Vice President and Provost of New Mexico State University today announced Dr. Renay M. Scott as the new President of Doña Ana Community College (DACC). The three presidential candidates including, Dr. Scott, Dr. Lydia Tena, and interim president Andrew J. Burke were on campus last week to meet with faculty, staff, students, advisory boards, and stakeholders from the community.
“I am delighted to announce that Dr. Renay M. Scott has accepted the position of President of DACC. Dr. Scott is a respected scholar, teacher, and administrator with broad experience in a community college setting. During the course of the extensive interview process, she impressed virtually everyone she met with her openness, vision, and willingness to tackle difficult problems.” Howard said. “She is a consensus builder and brings the “can do” attitude and willingness to consider innovative solutions that I was seeking in the next President of DACC. I am sure that she will embrace this community and will be embraced in return.”
“Please join me in thanking Andy Burke for his valuable service and leadership as interim president.” Howard said. “We asked him to serve and make needed changes at DACC. My sincere hope is he continues in a leadership role…his experience, institutional knowledge and management style are invaluable to the college and to the community. I look forward to working with Andy now, and in the future.”
Dr. Howard also thanked the DACC presidential search committee on their work and accomplishment to provide well qualified professionals for the position. He also thanked those who participated by providing feedback to him on all candidates. “I received e-mails and other documents which helped me through this process,” Howard said. “I thank those who took the time to help in this search.”
Dr. Renay Scott is Vice President and Provost of Academic Services at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio. She previously served as the Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences at Owens. Dr. Scott completed her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Wayne State University, her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Michigan State University and her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education from Calvin College. Dr. Scott will start on June 1, 2014 on a 12 month appointment with a base salary of $175,000.
DACC has eight locations throughout Dona Ana County including Hatch, East Mesa, Central Campus, Mesquite Neighborhood Learning Center, Gadsden, Sunland Park, the Workforce Center, and Chaparral. DACC is the fourth largest institution of post-secondary education in the State of New Mexico.
