Schranz Reception Highlights Art at DACC

The Doña Ana Community College (DACC) Art Committee will hold an art reception featuring nationally renowned local photographer Paul Schranz, whose work will be displayed around the Mezzanine area of the main building of the East Mesa Campus.

Also highlighted will be photographs from students in the ARTS department of the Creative Media Technology program along with student’s pottery from Professor Glenn Schwaiger’s Ceramics classes.

As part of the Artist’s Reception, the DACC Art Committee is auctioning several art pieces, including paintings by abstract artist George Mendoza, two matted and framed original prints from DACC instructor and local artist Ouida Touchan and a photo collage from photographer LeeAnn Meadows.

Several other artworks will be sold during the opening reception through the silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the DACC Permanent Art Collection Endowment Fund which needs to be fully endowed by the end of the year. Donations will be accepted at the reception.

Shranz is a retired Professor Emeritus of Art from Governors State University in Will County, Illinois, where he taught undergraduate and graduate studies in aesthetics, techniques and photo history. He was Director of the Preston Contemporary Art Center and Mesilla Digital Imaging Workshops. Shranz served as Creative Media Technology adjunct faculty at DACC from 2011 to 2014. He returned this semester to instruct an Advanced Photography Workshop in Collage Techniques. Schranz work was most recently seen in the opening exhibition of the Doña Ana Arts Council’s Arts & Cultural Center Gallery. Earlier this year, a solo exhibition was held at the Wash Park Art Gallery in Cincinnati, OH. Previous exhibitions include a solo show at the University of St. Francis Gallery, Chicago, 2016, and the 2015 Regional Exhibition, Here and Now, Las Cruces Museum of Art. An upcoming solo exhibition at the Lewis University Gallery, in Romeoville, Illinois, is scheduled in October. His landscape portfolio was featured in Black & White magazine in 2013. In addition to a 48-year academic career, Schranz was a contributor to Photo Technique magazine for three decades, serving as editor from 2010 to 2011.

Also on display in the building will be part of the DACC permanent art collection with more than 275 original artworks and limited edition prints donated by artists and patrons over the past 12 years. The collection includes representational, abstract and non-objective artworks in various media.

The DACC art collection is displayed at all DACC campuses and centers.
