Science Show Case Spring 2024
On May 3rd, DACC hosted its first Science Showcase focused on undergraduate research. Dean Joe Butler was thrilled with the turnout, “The is a huge success. It was an honor to meet the more than 25 students as they presented 14 different poster presentations. Their research was well done and the attendance of over 200 visitors was a pleasant surprise. My sincere thanks go out to the faculty and staff that supported and guided the research and made this event possible.”
The Showcase was attended by hundreds of students and faculty and was considered a great success and an important step towards DACC’s future in undergraduate research. With the support of Project Éxito, a Department of Education Title III STEM grant, and their advisors, students formulated their questions, did the research, and produced thoughtful and interesting results These SMET (Science, Math, Engineering & Technology) students produced a paper that is being featured in the Astronomy Education Journal and a several students will be presenting their paper in Arizona this October. In addition, several students in the program have been accepted into internships around the state, including Los Alamos National Laboratory.
