Dr. Charles Abasa-Nyarko is the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) at Doña Ana Community College. He officially began in the position in January 2020.
Originally from Ghana, Abasa-Nyarko earned a BA in Political Science (1979) from University of Ghana, an MA in Political Science (1984) from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of South Carolina (1988).
Abasa-Nyarko has worked in higher education for more than twenty-seven years. He began his career in 1988 as a political science instructor at Livingstone College and Elizabeth City State University both in North Carolina. He served in several administrative roles early in his career including; Director, Center for the Prevention of Crime, Illiteracy and Poverty at Norfolk State University (Virginia), Associate Dean of English Library & Social and Behavioral Sciences at South Suburban College (Illinois), Dean of Arts and Sciences at Muskegon Community College (Michigan), Vice President of Academic Services at Gloucester County College (New Jersey), Vice President of Academic Affairs at Bunker Hill Community College (Massachusetts), Executive Planner & Project Manager at Baltimore City Community College (Maryland) and Vice President for Instruction at Central Oregon Community College (Oregon).
As VPAA, Abasa-Nyarko works with faculty and staff to plan, develop, implement, and assess instructional programs at DACC.
