Doña Ana Community College (DACC) President Mónica Torres today announced Dr. Charles Abasa-Nyarko as the Vice President for Academic Affairs. He was one of five candidates who interviewed for the position following a national search.
Abasa-Nyarko has 27 years of professional experience in higher education with 17 of them at the community college level. His leadership in teaching and administration will help DACC accomplish its mission. While working in community colleges, Abasa-Nyarko led initiatives in strategic planning, accreditation, assessment of student learning, student services, recruitment and retention of students and faculty, diverse student populations, international education, budgeting, and alumni and government relations.
“We are excited about Dr. Abasa-Nyarko joining the DACC community,” Torres said. “His work experience includes leadership in diversity and inclusion practices, technology initiatives, student success interventions, grant writing and community partnerships, all of which are high priorities for DACC.”
Most recently, Abasa-Nyarko served as the Vice President for the National Curriculum Assessment Program working with the nation of Ghana to assess pre-university student learning.
Prior to that, he worked at a number of community colleges across the country.

Abasa-Nyarko received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Economics from the University of Ghana, a Master of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University, and a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of South Carolina.
The VPAA serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the community college.
