The Doña Ana Community College (DACC) summer programs for children will feature several different camps with hands-on activities and classes to help children explore their future career options in a fun, informative way.
The Kids College and Career Camps are for children, ages 10-15, who are beginning to think about what they might want to do in the future. In the camps they will explore different subjects. This year’s camps include:
- 2D & 3D Design Students will learn how to import pictures and create text to create a unique design project. Students will transform 2D sketches, photos & digital artwork into detailed 3D models.
- First Responders will highlight careers in the criminal justice, emergency medical, fire and animal control fields. Students will meet with police, firefighters, and animal control officers and receive training on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid. CPR Certification is included in the course.
- Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator will help students add elements and effects to pictures and design their own graphics. The class is taught by graphic artist Melody Prather.
- Artists 1 & 2 is a great course for your budding artist. Artists 1 is an introduction to the world of art. Students will learn about printmaking, sketching, pastels and watercolors. In Artists 2, the world of crafting and acrylic painting opens up to attendees. Wire wrapping, paracord, macramé, bead making, and Pointillism painting are featured.
The camps explore DACC career majors such as those in the arts, emergency management, public services, and creative media. Each week concludes with a Friday showcase from 4 pm – 5 pm, highlighting students’ projects from the week. Families and community members are invited to attend.
Two short semesters will be held with the first from June 3 – 27 and the second from July 8 – 26. The daily classes are held Monday through Friday from 9 am – noon or 1 pm to 4 pm. Each camp costs $80. For registration information, visit https://dacc.nmsu.edu/ctp/kids-college/ or call (575) 527-7776.
