When Savannah Chavarria began studying at Doña Ana Community College (DACC), she had one thing in mind: to help enrich her career for the future of her and her son.

Savannah, a DACC Radiologic Program major, is this year’s Hakes Brothers STEM scholarship recipient, a scholarship which provides a full year of paid tuition. The $6,000 scholarship, managed by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, was created with a mission to support single parents in Dona Ana County studying in a STEM-related field.

Savannah says the scholarship helps in many ways. The impact of this community scholarship will allow her to attend school while raising her son. Once she graduates, she’ll be able to give back to the community and help make it stronger. “To me, this scholarship means a lot, it means that someone believes in me enough to invest in my future,” says Savannah.

Scholarship applications open on Monday, January 4, 2021. Interested applicants may apply by clicking this link.

DACC is currently enrolling students for its fall semester, scheduled to begin in August. DACC encourages applicants to apply early in order to better assist them with obtaining financial aid and/or scholarships. Applying early also allows students more time to attend orientation, meet with their advisors, and register for classes. Helpful information such as degree programs, tuition costs, financial aid, and more can be found on the DACC website. Applicants can apply online at dacc.nmsu.edu.
