Doña Ana Community College’s (DACC) Education Program has added a new certificate for students.

The certificate, which is the DACC Early Childhood Development Certificate, aligns coursework with the New Mexico Child Development Certificate. This certificate meets entry level course requirements for professionals who would like to work with infants, toddlers, or preschoolers in New Mexico. DACC students who complete the certificate will be able to fulfill the course requirements for the New Mexico Child Development Certificate application.

According to the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions website, between 2016 and 2026, there will be a 7.01% increased job projection for childcare workers in New Mexico. This new certificate will allow students who develop critical skills to meet the needs of children being served by the industry and be more marketable than their peers.

The DACC Education Program offers numerous degrees and certificates in Early Childhood and Education. All degrees are considered two plus programs, meaning that all courses in each of the Associates degrees apply to the Bachelor’s degrees at NMSU. Students can seamlessly transfer to the Bachelors programs in Education and Early Childhood at NMSU.

“Education and Early Childhood professionals are highly sought after in New Mexico. Students may start their journey in Education or Early Childhood at DACC while enjoying the small class sizes, faculty members who are invested in student success, and many online course offerings within the Education and Early Childhood programs,” says Mylis Murdock, DACC Education Program department chair.

In addition, DACC is currently accepting applications for its fall semester, scheduled to begin in August. DACC encourages applicants to apply early in order to better assist them with obtaining financial aid and/or scholarships. Applying early also allows students more time to attend orientation, meet with their advisors, and register for classes. Helpful information such as degree programs, tuition costs, financial aid, and more can be found on the DACC website.

Applicants can apply online at dacc.nmsu.edu.
