Doña Ana Community College’s (DACC) Cultural Diversity Committee announces winners of its “Insta Vacay”, virtual vacation contest.
The contest, which ran March 19th through April 12th was held on the DACC Cultural Diversity Committee’s Instagram page for current students. Students were asked to submit a photoshopped picture of themselves, family, friends and others into a spring break vacation destination.
“The goal of the contest was to host a fun, innovative, and creative way for students to show off their photoshop skills and help foster a creative, inclusive student community,” says Frederick Almarez, Cultural Diversity Committee co-chair.
The committee received nearly 30 submissions which included a short narrative on why each particular location was selected. Congratulations to the following winners:
1st place – Hillary Pierce, “Return to the Alhambra”
Prize: Microsoft Service laptop 3
2nd place – Ren Tafoya, “Palace of Versailles”
Prize: Dell Inspirion laptop
3rd place – Ariel Rupp, “Machu Picchu”
10.2” iPad, 32GB
Community Choice Award – Lorena Rios, “Visiting My Son in Seattle”
Prize: Macbook Air laptop
Honorable Mentions – Emma Zavala, “Floating,” and Kenny Hernandez, “Barcelona with My Friends”
The contest was co-sponsored by the DACC Student Government Association (SGA). Winners and honorable mentions were selected by a panel of committee judges. The Community Choice Award was selected by the number of likes the entry received. The DACC Cultural Diversity Committee is a dedicated group of DACC faculty and staff committed to promoting cultural diversity at the college through community events and speakers.
