Luis Rios - Professor

Architecture/Drafting & Design Technology


Luis Rios teaches in the Pre-Architecture program, as well as the Drafting & Design Technologies program at DACC, where he has taught since 1989.  Mr. Rios’ education is in Civil Engineering and Educational Management & Development from New Mexico State University.  His professional experience covers a broad range of jobs and titles in the Architecture-Engineering-Construction realm, and includes having worked in both the private and public sectors.  His primary areas of interest are Sustainable Architecture and Land Development, and Structures in Architecture.  Courses taught by Mr. Rios range from entry and mid-level Architectural CAD, to Sustainable Design, and Architectural Digital Imaging.  Mr. Rios’ interest in Sustainable Design has led to his professional credential by the Green Building Certification Institute as a LEED Green Associate.  (For more information on Sustainable (Green) Design, visit,, and

Mr. Rios really enjoys his job and the new challenges that each generation of students brings to the classroom.  In addition to teaching full-time, Mr. Rios takes pride in ensuring that the curriculum is current and accessible to not only traditional students, but to High School Dual-Credit students.  As such, Mr. Rios often teaches on-site at local High Schools.  Furthermore, he founded the Architectural Discovery Camp which is offered each summer to mid school and high school students.  Mr. Rios also serves on the Board of Directors of the local ACE Mentor Program, which stands for Architecture-Construction-Engineering (a program for which Mr. Rios also teaches).  This program is designed for high school students who wish to learn more about the fields of Architecture, Construction and Engineering by participating in an after school, extra-curricular activity involving local design professionals who serve as their mentors.  (For more information on the DACC Architectural Discovery Camp, visit, and the ACE Mentor Program at
