Education Program Students will be able to: · demonstrate appropriate writing skills by composing a personal philosophy of education or educational intent · analyze commitment in working with persons with disabilities · discuss cultural awareness and multicultural education · evaluate New Mexico law regarding educator’ responsibilities in reporting suspected child abuse and/or neglect · discuss and demonstrate confidentiality expectations for educators · evaluate the pros and cons of the No Child Left Behind law and the requirements stipulated for educators · demonstrate participation in group activities and projects · determine the interpersonal skills necessary to work with students, parents, and peers in an educational environment · plan and implement lesson plans and instructional strategies in cooperation with other students · analyze developmentally appropriate practices in education · demonstrate knowledge of normal and exceptional patterns of development as they occur in the physical, cognitive and/or psychosocial domains Education Paraprofessional Program Students will be able to: · identify cooperative skills necessary to work alongside classroom teachers as part of a teaching team · practice interpersonal and teamwork skills by working in cooperative groups in class projects and activities · select appropriate instructional procedures during field experience opportunities · plan instructional experiences appropriate for diverse classroom needs · evaluate teaching and management practices for effectiveness · create learning materials to teach specific concepts · examine a variety of special needs presented in regular education classrooms or special education classrooms · compare and contrast lower-level and higher-level thinking and questioning strategies · discuss cultural awareness and multicultural education Early Childhood Education Program Students will be able to: · plan, evaluate, and/or discuss instructional practices appropriate for the education of young children · design educational materials appropriate for the education of young children · identify practices appropriate for the education of young children with special needs · identify practices appropriate for the education of diverse populations of children and families · evaluate classroom environments for learning, safety, and behavior management · determine interventions necessary to ensure child safety at school and in the home · demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with children, parents, and colleagues · analyze various classroom scenarios and formulate possible solutions integrating best practices · analyze developmentally appropriate practices in education ·
demonstrate knowledge of normal and exceptional

psychosocial domains
