Student Selection Process – Certificate Track

The application deadline is April 1st.

The program begins once a year in the fall semester only. Admission is limited, based on clinical site opportunities and accreditation standards.

Selection for the program is based on a point system as well as a comprehensive evaluation of the student’s overall strengths related to the essential qualifications, competencies and functions of the professional diagnostic medical sonographer.

Selection for acceptance is done in two phases. Phase I points are awarded by grades earned in prerequisite coursework as indicated below. Students may earn bonus points for completing additional coursework and/or for field experience as indicated. Additional considerations for selection are evaluated by TEAS scores and Phase II evaluation of the candidates.

PHASE I – APPLICATION POINTS

3.7-3.8 = 50 pts 3.0-3.2 = 30 pts.
3.5-3.6 = 40 pts 2.0- 2.9 = 10pts

TEAS TESTING:

The TEAS examination results are used by the program in the selection process to further evaluate the applicant’s academic strengths and/or potential weaknesses related to essential qualifications, competencies, and functions for professional diagnostic medical sonographers. Applicants must achieve an overall TEAS score of at least 60% to apply.

Students who score <65% overall OR who score <50% in reading OR who score <50% in two or more categories will be required to participate in mandatory program tutoring.

Phase II: Invitation only

Phase II is for applicants who have scored very well in Phase I and the TEAS exam. It is by invitation only and is conducted in an interview format to identify personal strengths and/or weaknesses related to essential qualifications, competencies, and functions for professional diagnostic medical sonographers.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL APPLICANTS WHO COMPLETE THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS ARE ADMITTED TO THE PROGRAM.
